What Rainforest QA is
Rainforest QA describes itself as "an AI-powered, no-code testing platform". It is a Y Combinator company that says it has focused on QA for more than 13 years, and in 2026 it added an MCP server so tests can be created and run from AI coding tools. As of September 2026:
- Creating tests. Tests are plain-English steps built in a visual, no-code editor, so people without coding skills can write and read them. AI can draft a whole test from a prompt, and an AI test planner sends seven agents to crawl your app for two to four hours and suggest what to cover.
- Running tests. Tests run in parallel on Rainforest's cloud of Windows and macOS virtual machines across many browser versions, on demand, on a schedule or from CI through its API and CLI.
- Maintaining tests. Elements are matched by screenshot, DOM selector or AI description, and self-healing updates steps when your app changes. Healing is automatic by default; you can route it through a branch for review.
- Results. Runs come with video recordings, logs and AI explanations of failures, with alerts by Slack, Teams or email and tickets in Jira.
- People when you need them. Its help centre describes human-powered testing: a community of trained testers who run plain-text tests on demand, exploratory testing by a dedicated team of four, and native iOS and Android app testing, which it offers with human testers only.
Why teams look for a Rainforest QA alternative
The usual reasons have less to do with Rainforest QA itself than with what a team needs from testing.
- A suite needs an owner. A regression suite pays back over many releases, but only while someone keeps it current as the product changes. Without an owner, outdated tests fail for the wrong reasons and people stop trusting the results.
- "Correct" comes from your requirements. A suite checks what someone wrote into it. Rainforest's AI drafts tests, but its platform page is clear that your team determines the tests and priorities, and you review each draft.
- Someone has to approve the release. Rainforest's results are built for your team to debug and triage. Evidence that a product owner or stakeholder can approve, showing open questions and what was not checked, is a separate job.
- Contract length. Rainforest's subscription terms default to a 12-month term that renews automatically unless the order form says otherwise, which is worth checking before you commit.
Rainforest QA vs ShipperAG at a glance
Rainforest QA helps you build and run a regression suite; ShipperAG checks each release against your requirements and hands you evidence. Here is how they compare as of September 2026.
| Aspect | Rainforest QA | ShipperAG |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Start-ups and product teams that want no-code test automation | Product and engineering teams that need each release checked against its requirements, with evidence |
| Approach | No-code regression tests, accelerated by AI, run on Rainforest's virtual machines | AI QA specialists check each release against your requirements, design system and business rules |
| Who writes and maintains tests | Your team, in plain English; AI drafts tests and heals steps | No suite to write: the coordinator picks the specialists each change needs, within your limits |
| Human testing | Optional crowd, exploratory and native mobile app testers | Your team answers Needs input questions and makes the final call |
| Evidence and sign-off | Run results with video, logs and AI failure explanations | Every finding re-run by an independent verifier, sealed in an evidence ledger, plus a self-contained report to sign or share with stakeholders |
| Platforms | Windows and macOS virtual machines and many browsers; native mobile apps with human testers | Designed for preview and staging URLs, and to run inside CI pipelines |
| Pricing model (as published) | No public price list; demo and free trial through sales; 12-month default term | From $149 a month, after a free 45-day trial |
| Availability | Available now, in the countries it serves | Private pilot (waitlist) |

Rainforest QA pricing, as published
As of September 2026, Rainforest QA does not publish a price list. Its pricing link leads to a sales enquiry, where you can book a product demo and set up a free trial. Its subscription terms set fees in an order form, with a default 12-month term that renews automatically unless either side gives 60 days' notice.
ShipperAG publishes its price: from $149 a month for 20 release checks, after a free 45-day trial; it is in a private pilot. When you compare, count the time it takes to build and maintain tests as your product changes, not only the subscription.
Where ShipperAG is different
ShipperAG starts from the question behind every release decision: does this release do what it is supposed to do? Here is how it works, in short:
- Connect a preview or staging URL.
- Add your requirements, design system or brand tokens, business rules and API docs.
- The coordinator reads the change and picks the specialists it needs, within your limits.
- Specialists run real checks: a real browser, HTTP and API calls, automated accessibility rules and visual comparison against design tokens.
- An independent verifier re-runs every finding in a fresh session, and the results are sealed in a hash-chained evidence ledger.
- A person on your team signs off, or shares the report with the stakeholders who approve the release.
Every item ends as Verified, Issue found, Needs input or Not covered. Needs input means the requirements were unclear or contradictory, so ShipperAG asks rather than guesses, which gives your product owner a precise question to settle. A model's opinion alone never marks anything verified. The report is a self-contained HTML file, and each project has its own workspace.
When Rainforest QA is the better choice
Not every team needs a Rainforest QA alternative. Rainforest QA is the stronger choice in several common situations.
- You need to start now. Rainforest QA is available today with a free trial; ShipperAG is a private pilot.
- Stable flows, tested for years. For an app you will test every week for years, a stable no-code suite that anyone on the team can edit is hard to beat.
- You want human testers. Crowd testing, exploratory sessions with bug videos and human testing of native mobile apps are part of Rainforest's offer. ShipperAG's specialists are AI.
- Specific machines and browsers. Rainforest runs tests on Windows and macOS virtual machines across many browser versions, including legacy Internet Explorer.
- Procurement asks for an audit report. Rainforest says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant and shares its audit report on request.
The two can sit side by side: a Rainforest suite guards your critical flows, while per-release checks cover what changed against the requirements. Whichever you use, record who approved each release and on what evidence; our UAT sign-off template shows what to capture.
What ShipperAG does not do
- It is not generally available or self-serve. It is a private pilot with a waitlist: teams start with a free 45-day trial with up to 20 release checks, and paid plans start at $149 a month.
- It does not offer a crowd of human testers. People stay in the loop by answering Needs input questions and making the final call.
- It does not replace a maintained regression suite on a long-lived product. It is designed to run alongside one.
- It only tests targets you own or have written permission to test, and it stays inside the hosts you allow.
