What Virtuoso QA is
Virtuoso QA is an AI test automation platform that its home page says is built for enterprise software delivery. It is made by SpotQA, which adopted Virtuoso as its company name and brand in March 2020. This is a comparison, not a Virtuoso QA review: every fact below comes from Virtuoso's own pages, as of September 2026.
- Tests in plain English. Testers write steps in natural language, and Live Authoring runs each one in a browser as it is written. Tests can also call APIs (product features).
- Touchstone. The home page now features Touchstone: more than 30 specialised agents turn your specs, tickets and process documents into proposed requirements and test journeys, citing their sources. Nothing is published until a person approves it, every decision is logged, and tests run on Virtuoso's deterministic engine.
- Maintenance. Self-healing updates tests when element selectors change; Virtuoso says a step that cannot be healed with confidence fails instead.
- Browsers. Web applications, including mobile web, across more than 2,000 browser, OS and device combinations such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. Its cross-browser page lists native iOS and Android app testing as a roadmap item.
Virtuoso says it released its product in spring 2019 and raised a $13.3 million Series A in 2021 (about page).
Why teams look for a Virtuoso QA alternative
Teams rarely look for a Virtuoso QA alternative because natural-language testing does not work. More often, the fit is wrong.
- An enterprise focus. Virtuoso's site is written for enterprise delivery, from business systems such as Dynamics 365, Salesforce and Oracle to regulated sectors such as insurance. A SaaS team that ships every week may want something lighter.
- A sales-led start. Prices are quoted and the standard contract term is 12 months, so buying starts with a sales conversation.
- A suite to own. Touchstone speeds up writing tests, but the result is still a suite that people approve, run and keep. When a spec changes, affected tests are flagged for someone to review.
- What "correct" means for your product. Whether a release is right depends on your requirements, design system and business rules: a checkout can pass every scripted step and still charge the wrong price.
In fairness, Virtuoso makes some of the same arguments ShipperAG does: its home page says a green suite is not proof on its own, and Touchstone keeps a person in charge of approvals. The difference is what you end up owning: a governed test suite, or a recorded decision for each release.
Virtuoso QA vs ShipperAG at a glance
Virtuoso QA builds and runs a natural-language test suite that you keep; ShipperAG checks each release and hands you evidence. Here is how they compare as of September 2026.
| Aspect | Virtuoso QA | ShipperAG |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Enterprises, including teams testing Dynamics 365, Salesforce or Oracle | Product and engineering teams that need evidence to approve each release |
| Approach | Natural-language tests, generated from documents, tickets or legacy scripts, with self-healing | AI QA specialists check each release against your requirements, design system and business rules |
| Who writes and maintains tests | Your testers, helped by AI agents; a person approves what is published | No suite to write: the coordinator picks the specialists each change needs, within your limits |
| How failures are handled | Root cause analysis; a step that cannot be healed with confidence fails | An independent verifier re-runs every finding in a fresh session before it is reported |
| Evidence and sign-off | Proposals, decisions and test runs logged; requirement coverage and traceability | Verified, Issue found, Needs input and Not covered, sealed in a hash-chained ledger, plus a shareable report |
| Browsers and devices | 2,000+ browser, OS and device combinations, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge; native apps on its roadmap | Real Chromium sessions, including phone and tablet sizes by emulation; Firefox, Safari and real devices not covered |
| Pricing model (as published) | Quoted: Consumption or Capacity plans, charged by authoring users and execution capacity; 12-month standard term | From $149 a month, after a free 45-day trial |
| Availability | Available now, through a demo | Private pilot (waitlist) |

Virtuoso QA pricing, as published
Virtuoso QA does not publish prices. As of September 2026, its pricing page offers two subscription models, both quoted:
- Consumption, for teams starting out: 3 to 100 authoring users and a volume of executions.
- Capacity, for large regression suites: 5 to 100 parallel cloud execution lanes and from 5 to unlimited authoring users.
Virtuoso says it charges for authoring users and execution capacity, not per test or per run, and that its standard contract term is 12 months. Agentic Test Generation and Composable Test Automation are paid add-ons. The pricing page still mentions a two-week trial and proof-of-value options, but on 20 September 2026 the free-trial page said the trial was not available and offered a demo instead.
If cost is your reason for looking at a Virtuoso QA alternative, ShipperAG starts at $149 a month for 20 release checks, after a free 45-day trial; it is in a private pilot.
Where ShipperAG is different
Virtuoso QA turns your documentation into tests; ShipperAG checks each release directly against your requirements, design system and business rules. Here is how it works, in short:
- Connect a preview or staging URL.
- Add the context: your requirements, the design system or brand tokens, business rules and API docs.
- The coordinator reads the change and picks the specialists it needs, within your limits.
- Specialists run real checks: a real Chromium browser, HTTP and API calls, automated accessibility rules, and visual comparison against design tokens.
- The independent verifier re-runs every finding in a fresh session, and the results are sealed in an evidence ledger.
- A person on your team signs off, or shares the report with the stakeholders who approve the release.
Every item ends as Verified, Issue found, Needs input (the requirements were unclear or contradictory, so it asks instead of guessing) or Not covered, shown plainly. The ledger is hash-chained, and the report is a self-contained HTML file. A language model's opinion alone can never mark anything verified.
Hand-written and AI-assisted changes get the same checks, across 13 quality areas from business rules to accessibility, security and performance; see the quality map.
When Virtuoso QA is the better choice
Not every team needs a Virtuoso QA alternative. Virtuoso QA is the stronger choice when:
- You test enterprise business systems. Virtuoso sells pre-built test libraries for Dynamics 365, Salesforce, SAP, Oracle Cloud and Workday.
- You need many browsers. Virtuoso runs the same test on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and mobile browsers. ShipperAG runs in Chromium only.
- You are migrating a legacy suite. Virtuoso's GENerator converts manual test cases and Selenium, UFT, Tosca or TestComplete suites into natural-language journeys (Agentic Test Generation).
- You want a long-lived, plain-English regression suite that business users can read too.
- Enterprise procurement. Virtuoso lists SSO with SAML, SOC 2 Type II, a 24/7 support portal and enterprise SLAs.
- You need to start now. Virtuoso QA is available today; ShipperAG is a private pilot.
The two can also sit side by side: a maintained suite for critical business processes, and per-release checks for what changed. We explain that blend in agentic QA vs test automation.
What ShipperAG does not do
ShipperAG is new, and it is not right for every job:
- It is not generally available or self-serve. It is a private pilot with a waitlist: teams start with a free 45-day trial with up to 20 release checks, and paid plans start at $149 a month.
- It checks in real Chromium browser sessions only, including phone and tablet sizes by emulation. Firefox and Safari (WebKit) rendering and real devices are not covered, and reports list them under Not covered. Our guide to AI browser testing explains why the browser engine matters.
- It does not replace a maintained regression suite on a long-lived product. It is designed to run alongside one.
- It only tests targets you own or have written permission to test, and it stays inside the hosts you allow.
Other Virtuoso QA alternatives and competitors
ShipperAG is not the only Virtuoso QA alternative. If you are weighing Virtuoso QA vs other AI test automation platforms, start with these:
- Testsigma is an agentic test automation platform whose AI agents generate, run and heal tests and score release confidence. See our Testsigma alternative comparison.
- Katalon sells the Katalon True Platform: test authoring, test management and a real browser and device cloud, at published prices. See our Katalon alternative comparison.
- mabl is an agentic testing platform for web, mobile and APIs that also stresses evidence and traceability. See our mabl alternative comparison.
