A TestSprite alternative for release sign-off

ShipperAG is a TestSprite alternative for teams that need more than a passing test run before they ship. Its AI QA specialists check each release against your requirements, design system and business rules, an independent verifier re-runs every finding, and your team gets evidence to approve. It is in a private pilot. TestSprite remains a strong choice for developers who want AI-written tests in their coding loop today.

What TestSprite is

TestSprite is an AI testing agent whose home page promises "Agentic Testing for Every Change You Ship". You point it at your app, and it writes end-to-end tests, runs them against the live app in its own cloud and reports what broke. This summary comes from its own site and docs, not a hands-on TestSprite review. As of September 2026:

  • Where it runs. An open-source CLI, an MCP server for your editor, a GitHub App that tests every pull request and can block merges, and a no-code dashboard (GitHub integration).
  • How it plans. TestSprite calls itself spec-driven: plans come from your PRD, from what it sees when it explores the live app, and from the gap between the two (docs overview).
  • What it tests. Web front ends, through generated Python and Playwright code, and HTTP APIs, through Python tests built from your API docs, with chained calls and automatic clean-up.
  • What you get when something fails. One bundle: the failing step, screenshots, DOM snapshots, the test source, a root-cause hypothesis and a recommended fix. On paid plans, Auto-Heal repairs UI tests when the page drifts.

TestSprite says it is designed for individual developers and small teams without dedicated QA. The Seattle company announced a $6.7 million seed round led by Trilogy Equity Partners in October 2025 (press release) and open-sourced its CLI under the Apache 2.0 licence in June 2026, SiliconANGLE reported.

Why teams look for a TestSprite alternative

TestSprite already plans from your PRD, so requirements are rarely why teams look for a TestSprite alternative. The usual reason is the result they need: a release decision, not only a test run.

  • A record for the person who approves. TestSprite posts pass and fail counts to pull requests and can block a merge. A product owner or QA lead deciding whether to ship wants a plain record of what was checked, what failed, what is still open and what was not covered.
  • Your design system and business rules. A flow can complete while a price is wrong or a component is off-brand, so some teams want checks against their own design tokens and business rules too.
  • Sign-off outside engineering. Some releases need approval from people who never open a pull request.

In fairness, TestSprite keeps every run with its verdict and video, and its dashboard is built for people who do not code.

TestSprite vs ShipperAG at a glance

TestSprite writes and runs tests while you build; ShipperAG checks each release and hands your team evidence to sign. Here is how they compare as of September 2026.

TestSprite pricing, as published

As of September 2026, TestSprite publishes four plans, each with a monthly credit allowance (TestSprite pricing):

  • Free: 150 credits a month and one test list.
  • Starter: free for the first month, then $19 a month for 400 credits and five schedules.
  • Standard: $69 a month for 1,600 credits and unlimited schedules.
  • Enterprise: a custom plan with dedicated support.

Yearly billing is advertised at 30% less. When credits run out, runs pause until the next month's allowance or an upgrade (billing docs). If price is your reason for looking at a TestSprite alternative, ShipperAG starts at $149 a month for 20 release checks, after a free 45-day trial; it is in a private pilot.

Where ShipperAG is different

TestSprite is built to check code while it is being written. As a TestSprite alternative, ShipperAG is built for the step after that: deciding whether a release is ready, and recording why.

  • Separate roles. A coordinator picks the specialists a change needs, within your limits, and specialists run the checks. An independent verifier re-runs every finding in a fresh session.
  • Real checks decide. A real Chromium browser, HTTP and API calls, automated accessibility rules and visual comparison against your design tokens. Language models help read context and write checks; a model's opinion alone can never mark anything verified.
  • It asks instead of guessing. When requirements are unclear or contradictory, the item is marked Needs input, with a precise question.
  • Gaps are stated. Anything outside what was checked is listed as Not covered, including other browsers and real devices.
  • A record people can sign. Results are sealed in a hash-chained evidence ledger. A person signs off, or shares a self-contained HTML report with the stakeholders who approve the release; our UAT sign-off template shows what that approval should record.

The checks come from AI QA specialists, picked for each release, and hand-written and AI-assisted changes get the same checks. See how to test AI-generated code.

When TestSprite is the better choice

Not every team needs a TestSprite alternative. TestSprite is the better fit when:

  • You want to start today, for free. It is self-serve, with a free plan and published prices.
  • Testing lives in your coding agent. Its MCP server and open-source CLI work with agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, so the agent can test and fix in one loop.
  • You want test code to keep. UI tests are generated as Python and Playwright code that you can export to GitHub.
  • Your product is API-heavy. API tests chain endpoints, pass values from one call to the next and clean up the data they create.

If you need something working this afternoon, TestSprite is the practical choice. The two can also sit side by side: TestSprite in the development loop, and a release check before you ship.

What ShipperAG does not do

ShipperAG is new, and it is not right for every job:

  • It is not generally available or self-serve. It is a private pilot with a waitlist: teams start with a free 45-day trial with up to 20 release checks, and paid plans start at $149 a month.
  • It does not generate test code for you to keep; what you keep is the evidence ledger and the report.
  • It runs in Chromium only. Phone and tablet sizes are emulated; Firefox, Safari and real devices are not covered, and reports list them as not covered.
  • It does not replace a maintained regression suite on a long-lived product. It is designed to run alongside one, against preview and staging builds and inside CI pipelines.
  • It only tests targets you own or have written permission to test, and it stays inside the hosts you allow.

Other TestSprite alternatives

ShipperAG is not the only TestSprite alternative. Three others are worth comparing.

  • KaneAI, from TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest), writes tests in natural language and runs them on a large browser and device cloud, from $19 per agent a month (TestMu AI pricing). See our KaneAI alternative comparison.
  • Momentic lets you write end-to-end tests for web and mobile in plain English and runs them on hosted browsers and devices, with a free tier (Momentic pricing). See our Momentic alternative comparison.
  • QA.tech runs autonomous AI agents that test web, mobile web, iOS and Android continuously, from plain-English scenarios, with GitHub pull request testing on Vercel previews (QA.tech home page). See our QA.tech alternative comparison.

// FAQ

TestSprite alternatives, answered

What is the best TestSprite alternative?

It depends on the job. For AI-written tests inside your coding loop, TestSprite itself or KaneAI's Kane CLI fit well; Momentic suits plain-English tests on hosted browsers. If your team needs each release checked against its requirements and signed off with evidence, ShipperAG is designed for that, and it is in a private pilot.

How much does TestSprite cost?

As of September 2026, TestSprite has a free plan with 150 credits a month. Starter is free for the first month and then $19 a month for 400 credits, Standard is $69 a month for 1,600 credits, and Enterprise is priced on request. Yearly billing is advertised at 30% less.

Does TestSprite work with coding agents like Claude Code and Cursor?

Yes. TestSprite offers an MCP server for your editor and an open-source CLI that coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Copilot can drive. The agent creates a test, triggers a cloud run and reads a failure bundle with a suggested fix.

What does TestSprite test?

Web front ends and HTTP APIs. UI tests are generated as Python and Playwright code that runs against your live URL; API tests are generated in Python from your API docs.

TestSprite vs Playwright: what is the difference?

Playwright is an open-source browser automation library from Microsoft that engineers use to write end-to-end tests in code. TestSprite is an AI testing agent that, as of September 2026, generates UI tests as Python and Playwright code that you can export to GitHub. ShipperAG instead checks each release against your requirements and hands your team evidence.

Is ShipperAG available now?

Not generally. ShipperAG is in a private pilot: teams start with a free 45-day trial with up to 20 release checks, and paid plans start at $149 a month. Joining the waitlist is how a team becomes a product partner, with early access on a real product.
